10 Historical place in the USA

1. Washington D.C.


Washington, D.C.:
Often considered as the place of neoclassical monuments and structures, Washington, D.C is located on the Potomac River and the capital city of the United States of America. The city is mostly famous for three buildings – the White House, the Supreme Court and the Capitol. The place is usually known as Washington and formally it is termed as District of Columbia. The capital is under an exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress and as a result, it does not belong to any other part of the USA. Washington, D.C. has been formed with the land donation from Virginia and Maryland and the name has been derived honoring George Washington, one of the founders of the state. The population of the city increased in the workweek and decreases in the weekends as the people of surrounding suburbs leave the city. Majority of the monuments are located around the National Mall. The climate of the city belongs to temperate maritime climate and it snows in winter. Now this is one of the most attractive places across the USA.


2. Alcatraz Islan: 


Alcatraz Island:
This is the only island in the USA that has played different roles like the role of lighthouse, military prison, military fortification and even a federal prison. Now this is a recreational center in the USA and located in the San Francisco Bay in California. The island went under occupation of some aboriginals for around one and a half year in the 1970s but later it was brought back to its current state. The island has been declared as a National Historic Landmark since 1986. Now the island is opened for all and anyone can have a tour here. The island provides different facilities to the tourists and those are managed by the National Park Service. Ferry ride is the way to reach the island and several cruise events are also available in the island for the visitors. But the former facilities like the lighthouse and the prisons are now in an abandoned state.


3. San Francisco:


San Francisco:
The city is mostly famous for its cloudy weather and fogs. Often the city is termed as the city of fogs as it is surrounded by fogs round the day and night and the fogs are available round the year. The iconic Golden Gate Bridge is the other attraction of the city while it is also decorated with skyscrapers. The hilly city is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and has turned into the commercial, financial and cultural hub of Northern California. The city is one of the most densely populated one in the entire country and the rate of population for per square mile is over 18, 000 people. The foundation of the city was laid in 1776 by the Spaniards. The city enhanced during the California Gold Rush in 1849 and then gradually turned into a modern city which is enriched with all types of amenities now. Unfortunately, the city experienced some natural calamities that destructed the city in the early part of 1900 and then everything was rebuilt quickly.

 

4. Philadelphia:


Philadelphia:
This is one of the largest cities of the USA and mostly famous for Philadelphia Museum of Art. Besides, the movie has served as location for some of the most famous movies. The history of the city is enriched and the documents are preserved at the Liberty Bell. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Delaware Valley. The city was formed in 1682 to assist Pennsylvania colony and then gradually the city flourished and appeared into the current state. The city had its active and specific roles during the American Revolution and also served as the temporary capital until the construction of Washington, D.C was completed. The city attracted Europeans in the beginning of the 19th century and gradually the city turned into the hub of migration for the African-Americans. The economy of the city primarily was based in industry but that experienced some ups and downs in the 1960s for some unavoidable reasons. But now the scenarios are different and this is one of the most important places in the USA to visit.



5. California:

California:
This is the state in the USA that has a border of around 900 miles and largely famous for its special attractions like the farmlands, cliff-lined beaches, Nevada Mountains, redwood forest, the Mojave Desert and more others. The state contains the city of Los Angeles – one of the most popular places in the entire USA which is the seat of the entertainment industry, Hollywood. The state some other cities like San Francisco, and the Alcatraz Island. The cable cars are also important as they are attractive for the outsiders. The state is located on the western part of the USA and bordered by Nevada, Oregon and Arizona. The state was settled by the native American tribes and then the location gradually was explored by the European. Besides, the state went under the Spaniard dominations in the 17th century. The state has economically been solvent for the large scale migration from the east and gradually turned itself into a developed state. The state is prone to earthquakes but the majority of them are not felt as they are too light. Now the state is a great destination for tourists in the USA.

6. The USS Arizona Memorial:


USS Arizona Memorial:
Built in 1962, the USS Arizona Memorial commemorates the sacrifices of the sailors and mariners who were killed in the Japanese attack in Pearl Harbor during the Second World War. Now this is the resting place of 1102 individuals who lost their lives on December 7 in 1941. This place also commemorates the events that took place on that day in this location. The USA got directly involved in to the Second World War after attacks were launched here. the memorial is accessible through boat and a large number of visitors annually come to pay respect to the souls. The memorial also provides with the historical detail information to the visitors about the events of that day and the entire memorial is under the authority of the National Park Service. there are some remains of sunken battleships of that time and those have been declared as the National Historic Landmark by the government in 1989. The site is located in Hawaii and its design was made by Alfred Preis. The entire structure is 184 feet in length and symbolizes the American pride.


7.  Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site:

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site:
This is one of the most prominent historic sites in the USA and exhibits the life events of Martin Luther King Jr who was a great leader for the civil rights movement in America. The entire site is made of several buildings which are relevant with the leader and resembles different tokens of him that he came in contact in his life. The site also includes the boyhood home of Martin Luther King Jr. and by the same time the site also contains the Baptist Church which was used for baptizing him. The site has been established as a National Historic Site since 1980 and the entire complex covers around 35 acres of lands. The museum at the site depicts the stories of Martin Luther Jr. and his struggles to achieve his goals. The site also contains a firehouse of 1894, a memorial for Mahatma Gandhi (an Indian leader) and a gift shop. The site draws a large crowd in different parts of the year and particularly on the events related with Martin Luther King Jr.


8. Gettysburg National Military Park:


Gettysburg National Military Park:
The American Civil War had some long-term impacts on the nation and has left many marks on the land and the Gettysburg National Military Park is one of the spots. This is the place where the battle of Gettysburg took place during the American Civil War in 1863. Now there are no signs of the war and the entire zone is now preserved by the National Park Service. The site contains almost all the battlefield of Gettysburg and many of the battle support areas and some other non-battle areas which were associated with the consequences of the battle as well. The Gettysburg National Cemetery is also located here while the artifacts of the American Civil War are displayed in the Gettysburg Museum. There are over 40, 000 American Civil War artifacts are displayed in the museum and in the visitor center. The preserving authority is planning to bring some changes in the battlefield and make look like the original one and some other facilities are to be added as well.


9. Independence National Historical Park:

There are a notable number of places are related with the American Revolution and the Independence National Historical Park is one of them that played an active role during that period to found the nation. This is a 55-acres land covering park and is administered by the National Park Service. This is one of the most visited places in Philadelphia and commonly known as – America’s most historic square mile for it contains a good number of historical landmarks of the country alone. The Independence Hall is the central attraction of the park and is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this place, the declaration of independence of the USA was made in the 18th century. The Liberty Bell, another icon of the US liberty is located in the Liberty Bell Center which also draws a good number of crowds. The park is famous for the other historic buildings of the country and the very first bank of the USA is located in the park.

10. Santa Fe Plaza:


Santa Fe Plaza:
Established in the 18th century, this Santa Fe Plaza is another historical landmark for the USA and located in the downtown of Santa Fe in New Mexico. This is a plaza or city square that has been made with the traditional Spanish- American colonial style and now plays the role of a common gathering place for the city dwellers. Sometimes, it is termed as the heart of the Santa Fe for its popularity among the neighboring citizens. The place has entertained a large number of cultures including the Spanish, the Mexican and the Native Americans. The place also holds some of the annual events like the Fiestas de Shanta Fe. The central park is filled with green grasses, benches and trees as shades on the benches. The area turns illuminated during the Christmas eve and trees are decorated with lights which increase the beauty of the entire plaza. The general plaza is encompassed with historical artifacts, monuments, art galleries, restaurants and more other things that attract attention of the locals and foreigners as well.
